Paddy Jackson
Well, I didn’t see either Connacht’s narrow defeat, or the margin of Leinster’s not so narrow defeat coming, but that’s what makes rugby interesting isn’t it? Treviso who havebeen the definition of rubbish all season, suddenly drag their sorry arses into gear and came up with a win. At least Connacht got their losing bonus point.
Munster got things back on track as Musgrave Park with a nervy win over Edinburgh. It was a mixed bag again, some great 15 man attacking rugby, mixed in with some dodgy line out work and some very below par scrumming – lucky not give a card away in the scrum. But all in all, a good afternoon’s work, Jonny Holland is developing well, and that scrum can be fixed.
After that, it was left to Ulster and Leinster to close it out for the Irish sides. Ulster were clinical wanted it more, and exploited Leinster’s indiscipline in their two yellow card periods. Leinster weren’t focused, and just weren’t sharp and hungry enough. Paddy Jackson had a great afternoon, as did Ruan Pienaar, and the win has helped cement Ulster in the play off positions. Completely forgettable performance from Leinster, but their scrum looks awesome, their defence is still good, with a few tweaks in the backline, and the right midset, I think there’s still something left in the season for them. And with some luck, we might get a rematch in the playoffs, and do ourselves justice this time…
