Wednesday next week is the starting date for the Women's Rugby World Cup 2017, and to celebrate, I thought I'd write a blog post! I've added a few tabs so you can see all the details - the pools, the fixtures, and the current world rankings.
The thing is basically sold out, although I did manage to get a ticket today today to the games on Wednesday in UCD Billings Park. I'm planning to see France v Japan in the evening. Ireland are in pool C, with Japan, Australia and France. The tournament follows the same format as the U20's world cup - you compete for maximum points in the pool stages, with the same bonus point system as the PRO 12/14. At the end of the pool stage, everyone gets put in a table based on points - the top four go one to compete for the final, and the other teams compete for the rest of the places. Read the fixtures and you'll see what I mean.
The games will all be screened on Eirsport, and the Irish games on RTE.
It's going to be tough enough going with a four day turnaround, so the fitness and depth of the teams is going to be seriously tested. Now's the time to really get behind the Irish women - they're amateurs playing at an exceptionally high standard...taking time off work to put their bodies on the line for Ireland! So get involved, watch the games on TV if you can't go, follow the team on social media, get hold of them to wish them well, talk about it at work, to your friends, let's get a fantastic buzz going!
